We’re looking for a server administrator or performance specialist with deep experience in LiteSpeed Web Server + WordPress, AWS EC2, and cPanel/WHM environments to help us troubleshoot a stability issue affecting several of our production servers.

The Problem:

I can't say for certain that the problem is LiteSpeed but after recently migrating 3 cPanel servers from Engintron to LiteSpeed we had 3 un-recoverable crashes in the past 3 weeks. By comparison, our legacy Nginx/Apache systems have had only 1 unrecoverable crash in 5 years.

While WordPress performance has improved with LiteSpeed, these servers show consistently higher IO Wait than our legacy Nginx/Apache setups (even with increased IOPS).

We want to determine if the issue is specifically related to LiteSpeed, the increased IO Wait, or some other configuration miss-match, and conceivably it could be simply a coincidence and it's an AWS underlying hardware problem and not at all related to LS.

The oldest LS server had been running for ~6 months without any issues before it crashed twice within the span of about 1 week. Out of a total of 22 running VMs, this server has crashed twice (we've had only 1 other unrecoverable crash in 5 years). Perhaps the VM remained on the same physical host after the first crash and this is the result of degraded AWS hardware?

The third unrecoverable crash was also a new LS server that had been in production for about 6 weeks before it crashed. All 3 LS servers have plenty of CPU/RAM and no other obvious bottlenecks.

All three crashes required us to restore from snapshots. In 2 cases the AWS console was un-responsive, in 1 case the AWS console was responsive. In all 3 cases the VMs could not be booted. Ultimately we were able to get all 3 volumes working again; 2 recovered by simply re-attaching them to a new EC2 instance, and 1 had to have the filesystem repaired (we did not use the volumes, this was just for forensic analysis to see if we could determine why they would not boot).

Even if the problem is AWS hardware related, we should have the LS and server configuration reviewed by an expert. And, we’re not AWS experts, so some of our EC2 instance and EBS configuration choices may not be optimal. We’d appreciate input on that as part of the review.

Harden the EC2 instance:
Enforce SSH key-only access
Disable password login
Close unused ports
Apply basic firewall or AWS security group rules
Test model functionality and PDF text extraction
Milestone 2 – Secure Internet Access and Documentation ($50)

Configure outbound internet access using a secure method:
VPN (WireGuard, OpenVPN, or Tailscale) or
HTTPS proxy (e.g., Privoxy, Squid)
Implement DNS-over-HTTPS (DoH) or DNS-over-TLS (DoT)
Set up outbound egress control to limit internet exposure
Disable all telemetry, background updates, or external pings from Ollama or system tools

Project Scope:
Our environment is already partially configured but we are experiencing issues getting TOTP to work correctly when combined with AD authentication. The goal is to ensure that users can authenticate to our MikroTik OpenVPN server using:
AD password + 6-digit TOTP code (as a single combined password string)

Current Challenge:
FreeRADIUS and PAM do not natively split the combined credentials (ADpasswordTOTPcode). We have a custom script in place to handle this, but the TOTP validation via Google Authenticator or compatible modules is not working as expected in the authentication flow.

Deliverables:
-Fix or replace the current credential-splitting logic so that it functions reliably with PAM or other FreeRADIUS modules
-Ensure proper handling of AD authentication + TOTP as one combined password
-Test and verify the solution using radtest and actual OpenVPN clients
-Document setup for future internal management
