Tried upgrading Ubuntu from 20.04 to 22.04 on my desktop and running into a kernel panic.

- Booting on an older kernel prompts for a root password; I do NOT have this password unfortunately, so I cannot run `dpkg --configure -a`. Does this mean its unrecoverable?
- Booting onto a USB and mounting this drive allows me to access files. Running "Boot-Repair" from it doesn't seem to catch or do anything (assuming I'm doing it correctly, which is unlikely)
- nchids recommendation (from the USB version of ubuntu) didn't seem to do anything either - https://askubuntu.com/questions/41930/kernel-panic-not-syncing-vfs-unable-to-mount-root-fs-on-unknown-block0-0

I do not want to enable SSH access to the public internet for this, as there is data on this PC that I cannot risk getting out due to HIPAA reasons.
