The Filter provides granular control over where to search for your keywords:
-
Search in title - Look for keywords in project titles. This is useful for finding exact matches since titles are usually concise and focused.
-
Search in description - Search through the full project descriptions. This helps catch relevant projects even if keywords aren’t in the title.
-
Search in skills - Match against the required skills list. This ensures projects align with your skillset.
By default, all three options are enabled to provide comprehensive search coverage. You can disable any of these to narrow down results.
Additionally:
- Highlight keywords - When enabled, your search terms will be highlighted in yellow throughout the search results, making it easy to scan projects and verify relevance.

The budget filter allows you to set your desired compensation range for both hourly and fixed-price projects:
Hourly Rate Range (USD)
- Set a minimum hourly rate to filter out projects below your target compensation
- Optionally set a maximum rate to focus on projects within your preferred range
- Example: Setting 35−50/hour will show projects offering rates in that range
Fixed Price Range (USD)
- Define minimum and maximum budgets for fixed-price projects
- Useful for filtering projects based on their total budget
- Example: Setting 500−2000 will show fixed-price projects with budgets in that range
Additional Budget Options:
- Hide projects without budget - Enable to exclude projects that don’t specify compensation
- Filter by lower range value - When enabled, uses the lower value of budget ranges for filtering
- Example: For a project offering 30−40/hour,withminimumratesetto35:
- Disabled (default): Project shown since range includes $35
- Enabled: Project hidden since lower value ($30) is below minimum
- Example: For a project offering 30−40/hour,withminimumratesetto35:
Important Notes:
- Setting only hourly rate filters will show only hourly projects
- Setting only fixed price filters will show only fixed-price projects
- Set both types to see all projects meeting either criteria
- Use maximum values cautiously as they may exclude well-paying opportunities
Filter projects based on the number of Connects required to submit a proposal:
- Set minimum and maximum Connect costs to focus on projects within your preferred range
- Example: Setting 2-6 Connects will show only projects requiring between 2-6 Connects to apply
- Lower Connect costs (2-4) typically indicate simpler projects
- Higher costs (6+) often indicate larger or more complex opportunities
The number of required Connects is determined by Upwork based on project budget and other factors.
Filter projects based on client details and history:
- Payment method verified - Only show projects from clients who have verified their payment method
- Upwork Enterprise Client - Only show projects from Enterprise clients (typically larger companies with established Upwork relationships)
There are very few Enterprise clients on Upwork. If you select this option, you will filter out most of the projects.
Client history metrics:
- Total spend - Minimum total amount the client has spent on Upwork (in USD)
- Number of hires - Minimum number of freelancers the client has hired
- Rating - Minimum client rating (1-5 stars)
- Reviews count - Minimum number of reviews the client has received
- Average hourly rate paid - Minimum average hourly rate the client has paid to freelancers
Location filtering:
-
Client country - Include or exclude clients from specific countries
-
Use the search box to find and select countries
-
Toggle between INCLUDE (only show clients from selected countries) or EXCLUDE (hide clients from selected countries)
-
Show projects if some attributes are not provided - By default, projects are hidden if client details are missing. Enable this to show projects even when some client attributes are unavailable.
Filter projects based on freelancer location requirements:
- U.S. Only - Only show projects that require freelancers to be located in the United States
- U.K. Only - Only show projects that require freelancers to be located in the United Kingdom
Location filtering:
-
Preferred Location - Include or exclude projects based on client’s location preferences
-
Use the search box to find and select countries
-
Toggle between INCLUDE (only show projects requiring freelancers from selected countries) or EXCLUDE (hide projects requiring freelancers from selected countries)
-
Show projects without country preference - By default, projects without specified location requirements are hidden. Enable this to show projects even when location preferences are not specified.
Location requirements are set by clients when posting projects. Some clients may be flexible with location requirements even if specified.
Control which freelance platforms and job categories to include or exclude in your search:
Sites
- Select which platforms to search from:
- Upwork.com
- Freelancer.com
- Guru.com
- PeoplePerHour.com
Categories
- Choose specific job categories to include or exclude
- Use the search box to find and select categories
- Toggle between INCLUDE (only show jobs from selected categories) or EXCLUDE (hide jobs from selected categories)
Each platform has its own set of categories. When you select a category, it will be applied only to platforms where that category exists.
Be careful when excluding categories - you may accidentally filter out relevant projects that are miscategorized or listed under multiple categories.
Setting too many advanced filters may significantly reduce the number of projects shown. Start with essential filters and add more if needed.
Fine-tune your search with advanced filtering options:

- Filter by expected project duration:
